Embracing the New Moon in Scorpio: Refresh, Recharge, and Realign

Hey there, Wordmaker!

And welcome to Scorpio Season! New Moon happens right at the beginning of the month, so I thought it would be cute to combine it with our monthly newsletter. So this one is going to be a bit longer than usual, so strap in for a long forecast!

Scorpio season is here, with its intense, transformative vibes. For wordmakers, it offers an opportunity to tap into the depths of storytelling, character motivations, and themes that go beyond the surface. Scorpio energy encourages us to dive into the raw, real, and sometimes shadowy sides of ourselves and our work, making it the perfect time to explore complex characters, rich backstories, or plot twists that pack an emotional punch.

While this season can feel a little heavy or intense, it’s also incredibly rewarding for writers looking to reconnect with their creative power and vision. This time of year asks us to examine what drives us, confront any creative fears or doubts, and allow ourselves to evolve. So, whether you’re uncovering hidden layers in your characters or taking a brave step forward in your writing career, Scorpio season is here to help you get to the heart of what truly matters in your work.

Events: #Plot4in4 November 1-30

This November, I’m excited to introduce #Plot4in4—a fresh, flexible approach to harnessing your creative energy as the year winds down. For authors with an overflowing idea file (or can’t resist shiny new ideas), this is the month to dive in and see which concepts have the spark to become your next big project. Whether you’re looking to get organized or just play around with new ideas, #Plot4in4 offers the structure to help you explore and get those ideas into shape.

The #Plot4in4 challenge will break down the plotting process into manageable steps, guiding you from scattered concepts to structured story outlines in just four weeks. Here’s what you can expect:

1. A Clear Framework: We’re tackling the overwhelm of idea management by focusing on the building blocks of each story. Think of it as a practical roadmap for turning your ideas into fully realized story starters that will be ready for you when you’re ready to dive in.

2. Four Story Outlines: By the end of November, you’ll have four detailed outlines, each one primed for that magic moment when you’re ready to bring it to life.

3. Balance of Freedom and Structure: This challenge isn’t about boxing you in but about giving your creativity direction. Explore those story ideas you’ve been holding onto, but with a focus that brings them to fruition rather than distraction.

4. Weekly Brainstorming Sessions: Join our Zoom chats on November 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd to brainstorm and troubleshoot alongside other authors.

5. Tips & Best Practices: I’ll share some tips and prompts to prep you for each week.

6. Community Support: Writing can feel solitary, but with #Plot4in4, you’ll be part of a supportive author community. Celebrate progress, share insights, and troubleshoot challenges together.

Imagine finishing November with four ready-to-write story outlines and the momentum to carry you forward. Starting November 1st, we’ll jump into the challenge, but keep an eye out for early tips and prep materials starting October 15th. Join us and close out the year with fresh stories, new connections, and a powerful sense of direction.

Card of the Month: The Hermit - reversed

I don’t typically read reversals, but The Hermit reversed offers some rich insights, especially as it encourages us to look at our writing and creative processes with fresh, curious eyes. In its upright position, The Hermit is typically about introspection, solitude, and searching for deeper meaning. But when reversed, The Hermit is nudging us to step outside the echo chamber of our own minds and reengage with the world—making it a particularly fitting message for writers.

This card is a reminder to reconnect with the external inspirations that feed our stories, characters, and even our motivation to write. Have you been isolating yourself a bit too much with a project or struggling to make progress in solitude? The Hermit reversed suggests that it might be time to seek outside perspectives—perhaps by bouncing ideas off a trusted friend, joining a writers' group, or even reading widely in a genre outside your comfort zone to spark new insights.

It’s also cautioning against overthinking or becoming overly self-critical. Many writers experience periods of doubt, where they may feel like they’re losing their way creatively. This card is an invitation to let go of perfectionism and give yourself permission to do, rather than endlessly critique. If you've been revising the same paragraph repeatedly or holding off on starting a new project until it feels "just right," this card suggests it’s time to break out of that cycle. Embrace forward momentum and remember that it’s okay for the journey to be imperfect.

In a practical sense, The Hermit reversed could be prompting you to revise how your approach your writing routine or goals. If you've been working alone and feeling stagnant, try breaking up the routine by connecting with other creatives. This month could be a great opportunity to get feedback, join an online writing sprint, or try new techniques to infuse your work with fresh energy.

In essence, The Hermit reversed reminds us that growth doesn’t happen in isolation. By reengaging with others, exploring new perspectives, and loosening the grip on perfection, you’ll not only enrich your writing but also find renewed purpose and joy in the process.

Key Transits and Aspects

The sky is very busy this November! The astrological landscape is buzzing with transformative energy, making it a significant month for introspection, renewal, and big-picture planning.

Here’s an overview of the key transits and aspects to be aware of, especially if you're looking to harness this energy creatively:

Mercury in Scorpio (November 1-19): This is a perfect transit for delving into deep, layered conversations and uncovering hidden aspects of your creative projects. Mercury in Scorpio is all about clarity and depth. Use this time for intense brainstorming, especially around complex themes or character motivations that might benefit from a darker, more mysterious tone.

Venus in Libra (until November 16): Venus brings a focus on harmony, balance, and relationships. This transit is wonderful for building connections, particularly with other writers or collaborators, and nurturing the creative bonds that make your work richer. Consider connecting with a critique partner or sharing your work in a supportive community setting.

Mars in Scorpio (beginning November 12): Mars in Scorpio is about persistence and drive. If there’s a creative project you’ve been hesitant to dive into, this is the perfect time to get started. The energy of Mars in Scorpio encourages tackling ambitious goals with passion and intensity, which is ideal for focusing on big projects that require deep commitment.

Lunar Eclipse in Taurus (November 15): Eclipses are about change and transformation, and this one, happening in steady Taurus, asks us to release what’s holding us back. This can be a great time to assess which habits or creative practices aren’t serving you and consider letting go. It’s a chance to clear out the old and make way for new, productive routines.

New Moon in Sagittarius (November 30): The New Moon in adventurous Sagittarius is a time for fresh starts and setting new intentions. Sagittarius energy is all about expanding horizons, so use this time to map out any new projects, take creative risks, or plan a new direction for your work that excites you.

Each of these transits offers a different opportunity to tap into the cosmic energy and channel it into your writing practice. Whether you’re exploring deeper themes, nurturing your creative relationships, or setting bold new goals, November’s transits provide a dynamic landscape for growth and renewal in your writing journey.

When the New Moon falls in Scorpio, it invites us to shed what’s not working, embrace transformation, and lean into our most authentic selves. For wordmakers, this is a potent opportunity to refresh writing goals, explore uncharted story ideas, or even rekindle a stalled project with a renewed sense of purpose.

Harnessing the New Moon for Your Writing

This New Moon’s energy offers a perfect moment for deep self-reflection and vision-setting. Writers can benefit by identifying key themes they want to explore in their work or by setting focused writing intentions. The New Moon encourages a blend of introspection and boldness, making it an excellent time to experiment with fresh perspectives, establish new routines, or dive into ambitious projects.

The New Moon in Scorpio brings a wave of energy that’s perfect for anyone looking to dive deep, reset, and transform. Scorpio is all about intensity, depth, and authenticity. It encourages us to peel back layers and get to the heart of things. This energy is ideal for wordmakers, especially those of us who are ready to explore deeper themes, work on character-driven stories, or let go of habits that aren’t serving our creative process. Scorpio’s influence doesn’t shy away from the darker side of things, making this New Moon the perfect moment to confront fears, unearth hidden motivations, and renew commitment to long-term goals. Let’s dive into what this lunar cycle has to offer!

Writing Tips Based on Zodiac Signs

Astrology and writing make for an unexpectedly perfect match. Each zodiac sign brings its own energy, strengths, and quirks, and these traits can easily be channeled into your creative process. The sky might have some helpful insights if you’re looking to understand your natural writing style better or find ways to approach a challenging part of your project. By leaning into your zodiac’s unique characteristics, you can uncover fresh ways to structure, inspire, and complete your writing.

Aries: Take this New Moon as a chance to dig into your character’s emotional depths. Maybe it’s time to add complexity to a story by exploring secrets or hidden motives.

Taurus: Use Scorpio’s grounding intensity to create a ritual around your writing routine. Set an intention to stick to one project and see it through to the end.

Gemini: Channel Scorpio’s intensity to explore one idea deeply rather than spreading your focus thin. Dedicate this moon cycle to developing one project or concept.

Cancer: Scorpio energy is intuitive, much like your natural vibe. Use this time to write about themes of healing, family, or emotional resilience—things you connect with deeply.

Leo: With Scorpio’s laser focus, think about a passion project that’s been simmering on the back burner. Let the New Moon spark the start of something bold and meaningful.

Virgo: Try grounding yourself in Scorpio’s transformative vibe by focusing on research or worldbuilding. This is a great time to dive deep into the details of a setting or character backstory.

Libra: Use the New Moon to write scenes that explore inner conflict or intense relationships. Think “high stakes” and bring in some psychological depth to your characters.

Scorpio: This is your season, and this New Moon brings a boost to everything you’re working on—set intentions around personal projects that showcase your unique style and depth.

Sagittarius: Scorpio’s introspective energy might feel intense for you, but it’s the perfect time to reflect on your goals. Focus on honing one idea rather than expanding in multiple directions.

Capricorn: Let Scorpio’s transformative energy help you reflect on long-term goals. This New Moon is ideal for aligning your work with your deeper values.

Aquarius: Scorpio’s intensity can help you explore unconventional themes. Take this time to write boldly, exploring taboo subjects or futuristic themes with fresh eyes.

Pisces: This New Moon is a time to dive into themes of transformation and redemption. Write stories that bring hope or renewal, drawing from Scorpio’s focus on deep, meaningful change.

The New Moon in Scorpio offers a powerful invitation to explore your creative depths, renew your intentions, and embrace transformation in your writing process. Whether it’s by setting fresh goals, reconnecting with your intuition, or focusing on one specific project, there’s a world of potential waiting to be tapped. Embrace the magic of this lunar phase and let it guide you toward new levels of creative expression!

Practical Exercises for Wordmakers During the New Moon

Harnessing the New Moon’s energy is a beautiful way for authors to refresh, reset, and realign their creative intentions. The New Moon phase is all about fresh starts and planting seeds, which makes it the perfect time to dive into exercises that can support your writing practice, boost creativity, and reconnect you with your goals.

Here are three exercises designed to make the most of this lunar phase:

1. Goal-Setting Session: Take a few quiet minutes to set one primary writing intention for this lunar cycle. Maybe it’s to finish a chapter, outline a new project, or develop a stronger daily writing habit. Jot down three to five actionable steps to make this intention a reality, breaking the goal into achievable pieces. By grounding your intention with clear steps, you’re creating a roadmap that keeps you focused and motivated throughout the month.

2. Freewriting Exercise: Freewriting is ideal for sparking new ideas. Set a timer for ten minutes and brainstorm freely about a new character, a scene, or even a fresh plot idea. Let the ideas flow without judgment, tapping into the New Moon’s energy of uninhibited possibility. This is also a great exercise if you’re working through writer’s block—it encourages movement on the page, helping you capture thoughts and ideas you might have overlooked.

3. Vision Board: If you’re visually inclined, create a vision board that reflects your current writing goals, themes, or even the atmosphere you’d like to build in your stories. Whether digital or physical, gather images, quotes, colors, and symbols that capture the essence of your work in progress. This visual representation aligns with the New Moon’s fresh-start vibe, helping you focus on your story’s full potential and inspiring you every time you look at it.

The New Moon in Scorpio is an especially potent time for self-reflection, transformation, and creative renewal.

Scorpio’s energy is intense, encouraging us to go beyond the surface and confront deeper themes—think desires, fears, and the things we might have kept hidden even from ourselves. For writers, this lunar phase is a chance to explore and unearth aspects of your storytelling that feel raw and true. Scorpio isn’t about playing it safe, so use this time to go deeper and to be daring to be bold.

This New Moon’s energy is about starting fresh, embracing change, and growth in ways that might feel uncomfortable but are ultimately rewarding. Think of each lunar phase as an ally in your creative journey, from setting and clarifying goals during the waxing phase to reflecting during the waning moon. By tuning into this cycle, especially under Scorpio’s transformative light, you can cultivate a writing practice that’s dynamic, resilient, and deeply aligned with your creative purpose. 🌑✨
